On Easter evening Grandma Barkdull called to tell Jaxsen that one of Papa's friends horse had her baby, Jax was ecstatic and we rushed over. We got there and Grandma was feeding the baby with a bottle. The mamma horse was having some complications and couldn't get up to nurse so they were milking the mom and feeding it to the babe. Jax instantly fell in love with this little girl and started calling her "Trouble" who knows why?? But it stuck
He followed that horse around and was just loving on it like crazy
But the poor mom just couldn't get her back legs working to stand up so they brought in the skidster to give her some help
She finally got up and Trouble tried to nurse but she decided it was easier to just get it out of the bottle instead of all the work it takes to nurse
I wish that this had a happy ending but.. it doesn't. The mom just couldn't stay up and they both had a really bad night. Jax worried about the mamma horse all night and first thing in the morning he was asking if she was ok. So after work we called Papa and arranged to go see how they were doing. Unfortunately we got there and Trouble and the mom were going down fast. Poor Trouble couldn't even get up she was so weak. They think that because she was 5 week early she was under developed. While we were there poor Trouble passed away and Jax experienced his first heart break. I have never seen him so sad, he ran and laid on Trouble and was crying hysterically. He kept saying it's not fair, she was just a baby she wasn't even old. Both Grandma and I were crying, not because the horse had died but because I was watching my son experience something truly painful and I could do nothing to take his pain away. I tried comforting him all night and Dave and I talked to him about Trouble going to heaven with Jesus but to a 4 year old he just wanted Trouble to come back. He finally cried himself to sleep in my bed with my arms wrapped tight around him. Jaxsen is so loving and soft hearted and I wish he wouldn't have had to go through that but hopefully it will a good life lesson.
