Papa invited Jaxsen on a 3 day pack trip to Upper Palisades Lake. He was so excited and it was a long month waiting for it to get here. The day they were leaving me and Syd took Jax up to Papa's house where they were getting the horses ready to go. Syd wanted to ride.. and then didn't want to get off. The boys left and were ready for fun! This white horse is Jaxsen's new horse Spot. She is such a well tempered horse and he's going to have many trips on her.
They left Thursday which was a beautiful day. These are the pictures I got from Papa, looks like a good time was going on. Friday was wet and rainy all day which makes it not as enjoyable but didn't stop these boys.
It was about 5:30 Friday night when I got a call from Morgan that Jax had been in a little accident and needed to come home to get to the doctor and the dentist. He and Dawson were getting some sunflower seeds out of the saddle bags and something spooked the horse and Jax got kicked and stepped on. His top teeth got pushed up in his gums, there was so much force that it popped his adult teeth through also. When I looked in his mouth I thought all of his teeth got pushed up but it was just a combination of baby teeth up in the gums and an adult tooth that came down. Morgan was more concerned about him getting an infection in his gums so I called his dentist in Rexburg who luckily hadn't left for the night yet and waited for us to get there. By the time we were just out of Swan Valley Jaxsen started going into a mild form of Shock. He would get hot then get so cold his teeth were chattering. He was really dosile and wanted to sleep. We got to the dentist in Rexburg and by that time his leg was KILLING him. We had the dentist do a quick check and he said that since his front teeth were all caps the gums would swell up and push the caps out and things should heal fine. AAHHH.. relief. We then headed straight up to the Emergency Room to get his leg checked out. We got to the hospital and he was in so much pain that I knew something was not good. They got him some pain medicine and he was able to start to relax. Thankfully Dave got there shortly after and as soon as those boys saw eachother they both started to cry. I think Jaxsen was trying to be strong for me and as soon as he saw his dad he knew he could let loose and be a little scared because his dad was there. The X-Ray showed a brake in his Tibia and Fibula bone right under his knee cap. Thankfully it was just barely under his growth plate. After we found that out we had to wait for the surgeon to get out of surgery to see him. Dr. Torngren was an amazing doctor, he came in and looked at the X-Rays and gave us a few options. He wanted to put Jaxsen to sleep and try to manually align the bones and then cast it. He was also worried about ligament damage and ordered an MRI for the following week. My mom came and got Sydney and took her home and Carol rode home with me and Jaxsen incase he needed anything. Dr. Torngren was hopeful that as long as he was on total bed rest for a week while we waited for the MRI that his bones would stay aligned. He said kids bones moves easily so we took it very serious because we did NOT want to have surgery.
For a few nights I slept in his room during the nights in case he needed anything. Then we decided a walkie talkie system would work great. He was faithful about staying in bed. Even Grandpa and Great Grandpa came over on Sunday morning and brought him some hot chocolate because he couldn't go to bull shit.
Grandpa Hatch bought him a lego set and he was HOOKED!! During the next 6 weeks we put together close to 20 sets of toys and lots of $$ in legos.
It was almost a week when we went to get his MRI and he was nervous about getting it but excited to get out of bed for a little bit.
We found out that Dave and I could NOT go into the MRI with him because of the magnetic force, which was extremely hard as a parent. Dave tried to explain what was going to happen to ease his mind a little. The MRI took about 20 minutes and the tech was nice enough to let us watch in her room. I'm sure she could sense our hesitation and nerves. Jaxen got to choose the room color and the music he wanted to listen to. Again Thankfully everything looked good, no ligament damage. We then had to go back to Dr. Torngrens office for X-Rays to check the alignment. Again Thankfully.. still lined up great. He told Jaxsen absolutely no weight on his leg for the full 6 weeks. He needed to be in a wheelchair at school as to make sure he didn't fall, or get pushed by accident. He got pretty good at crutching around the house , in fact he was faster on those crutches than on his own two feet.
After 6 weeks of this cast, it's coming off!! He was nervous about how they were going to cut off his cast without cutting his leg. The nurse was very good and patient with him. She held the blade up to her arm and put it right on her skin to show him it wouldn't cut his leg.
Syd had been running around the room and jumping from chair to chair until they turned on the saw.. then she was still, absolutely still :) After the cast came off they did more X-Rays and it still showed a small fracture, so the Dr put him on restricted use for a month. After 4 weeks we went back for more X-Rays and the Dr said it still had just a small small fracture. He was confident it will heal just great, he said the good and the bad to that big bone is that it's hard to break and hard to heal. Jax is doing great and is back to normal walking, still has a little limp when he runs but I'm sure it will be fine over time.
